MEZZANINES

A common method to increase storage space is to provide a second or third level utilizing the cube of the warehouse without increasing the floor square footage. Under most tax laws mezzanines are equipment, not real property. This minimizes additional taxes and allows depreciation advantages granted equipment over buildings. There are several methods available depending on the product, the live load capacity, the warehousing function, and the number of inventory turns expected. . Whichever type is used, Seismic Design is required by the Memphis Shelby County Building Code. Grafco will handle all phases of the seismic requirement from engineering design, to permitting, to final code inspection.

SHELVING SUPPORTED

Grafco, Inc - Shelving MezzanineIf industrial grade shelving is the storage medium, it is possible to use the shelving to support the upper levels. The upper level can have a full mat floor to provide open space for packing tables, quality control or bulk storage. If additional shelving is required it can be an extension of the lower level and the decking material is then only required in the aisles as a catwalk.

RACK SUPPORTED

Grafco, Inc - Catwalk MezzanineWhen rack is the storage medium because of product size or bulk, a catwalk can be added to provide manual access to upper beam levels. This is a popular method for order picking situations which more than doubles the available SKU's in a minimum floor space. Carton flow and pallet flow can be combined to maximize the utilization.

FREE STANDING

Grafco, Inc - A Free Standing MezzanineWhen full utilization of the floor space is required a free-standing mezzanine with maximum column spacing and no cross bracing is the answer. Column spans up to 30 feet are possible. This type also provides floor support for conveyor accumulation and sortation systems above the normal work area.

CUSTOM

Grafco, Inc - A Custom MezzanineWhen the building columns, offices, exterior doors or other equipment present obstructions or there are overhead obstructions which dictate special configurations, a custom layout can be completed which will meet all the construction codes. A custom design is completed with the same adherence to detail as the other types and will maximize your utilization.
